A Moment in Time by EB

My heart was thudding. Butterflies were twirling and fluttering around in my stomach.
‘I have never tried a rope swing before. What would it be like?’ I thought to myself. I was at Eastern Beach and I was about to go on a rope swing that I knew nothing about. Would I fall? Would I slam into the tree trunks behind me? I didn’t know. The only way to find out was to have a go. My heart was in my throat as I pulled the swing up to the starting point. I gripped on the rope hard and hauled myself on and as soon as my left foot left the ground, I was off. This was even better than I expected! I was soaring through the air like a bird. It was so cool! My first rope swing – a dream!

A Memorable Day

A Memorable Day

In the holidays dad, mum and I went to Waitomo Caves to see the glow worms and cave. Once in the cave you could see the carvings in the lime stone formed millions of years ago. Over time water has been gushing through the cave, making huge tunnels, gaps and more. Even now water drips down and if it lands on you it’s a sign of good luck. After seeing the amazing cave all of the group and dad, mum and I went to a platform to see the glow worms. It was fascinating seeing the hundreds of glow worms. Next the tour guide took us on a boat ride through the rest of the glow worms. We were floating in the river, drafting down and looking at the cave structure with hundreds of little lights.

Athletics Sports

Yesterday it was athletics day. I had to do long jump, high jump, sprints and ball throw. This year I did really badly at sprints because I tripped over in the 100 meter sprints. For high jump and ball throw I didn't make it into the top 10. For long jump I came 6th with 3.6m. I thought the fun activities were really fun, especially doing the wheel barrow.

BALL THROW

I step up to the line. My heart is on fire. Other people were throwing really far, and I was thinking, 'I'm not going to pass them.' It was my turn. I stepped back and threw the ball as far as I possibly could.  "YEAH" I did it! I was in the lead and going through to the finals!

THE FINAL

The third person was about to throw. "YES" I said quietly as the ball rolled past me. Second place was throwing. I had goose bumps! I was freaking out!!  " I'VE WON, I'VE WON" I cheered. I still needed to throw. I threw and it was all over.

Kopu-Wai, the Dog Head Man

Room 15 has read a variety of Maori myths and legends. We have decided to make costumes for the characters of Kopu-Wai, the Dog Head Man for our Wearable Arts evening.  However, we have decided that we would like to write a Taniwha into the story, to make it more interesting! So the characters in the story are: Kopy-Wai (the Dog Head Man), Kaia-Mio (the beautiful girl who gets kidnapped by Kopu-Wai), five vicious two-headed dogs (who live with kopu-Wai), a group of villagers, and a Taniwha.
We are looking forward to start making our wearable art items. We have lots of interesting ideas for showing through art what the characters are like.

Poetry

Circus inside a dog’s body The nerves are like scribbles on paper as they enter the arena. The brain is bogging to the beat of the ear drum. Lungs pump up balloons. Eyes glare at the target, hoping to win a prize. Bones tango about. As the balloons inflate the tail bone waves goodbye. by JEG

The Confusion

I rode into a wild west town in Texas. Straight in front of me, there was a bandit challenging me to a shootout. Actually, I was walking into school on a normal Monday morning. I had a look around, the school looked like a ghost town. The lights were off, tumbleweed was rolling around and you could even see tiny cobwebs lurking in the corners. The field's grass was brown and as high as a 2 storey house. I bet if I walked into it, I'd feel like I was a tiny beetle exploring the grass. I was afraid that someone had accidently knocked a jar over and caused an evacuation of the school, because of a radiation leak.

conspiracy 365

As Jaden, Bryan and I were running away from the cops (we sort of stole a jewel), in Italy down Boston Road 45A, we saw a portal - a very blacky-purple portal. We had no other choice than to jump into it because we were surrounded by helicopters and cops in cars. So...Woosh!! We jumped in and landed on the very top of Big Ben in England. We were about to fall off but when we fell, we realised that a jetpack was strapped to our chests plus a sniper with 1 million bullets. So we got our jetpacks ready. As the wind was blowing us to pieces, we pressed the button on our straps and glided down and landed on a street light, and then started spinning over and over getting faster and faster. Then next thing we knew we were knocked out!!!............Aaah! Jaden and I woke up, but big, chubby, sleepy Bryan was still asleep. But wow!....we were in a jail cell at the age of fifteen. Bryan woke up slapping me in the face but I calmed him down. Then we started to think about how we could get out of there and how we could get the jewel back, so Bryan and I thought for a second and then we realised that we still had our guns and that we could shoot a hole, then grab the jewel and escape. So we started - BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!BANG!YES! The wall was broken into pieces, and so were my ear drums!! So we ran, broke the priceless glass, grabbed the jewel and then ran outside, pushing the door over, but sadly Jaden dropped the jewel. Luckily we found a sheet that came out of the inside of the jewel and it said: If you want to survive you will have to climb Encom Tower and go through the portal there. So we ran and ran and ran also puffing. Finally we reached Encom Tower and threw our grappling hooks that were also strapped onto us. Then we climbed and climbed and climbed until we finally reached the portal, then jumped in. We were so scared that we would turn up, so...WOOSH!!.....Yah! We turned up at our homes, we were finally home. YAH!

The Wanted Man

I was getting chased by cops, in Spain at Boston Drive. Helicopters were surrounding me and suddenly I saw the best cop in the world at the end of the street, Jack. I had goose bumps all over my arm, sweat was in my armpits. Water was dripping all over me - there was only one thing to do - RUN!! I was being chased for robbing banks all over the country. At the start of the street there was a black thing. Suddenly I was at the start. I turned my head and there was Jack with a revolver. The black thing glowed, I decided to jump in it. Suddenly I ended up in a place with a lot of English men. "Hey, what country am I in?" "NZ". I was wondering where I was, but at least I had gotten away. I was looking for a place to stay. Suddenly I found a place. It was a black and green house. I did a weak knock on the door. A little boy came to it. He looked about 12 years old, he had brown hair and green hazel eyes. I asked if I could stay here for the night. The boy looked at me, and he looked surprised. He asked his mum and she said yes. I was thanking them so much. We had the best dinner - pizza and chips, yummy. I had cookies and cream, that is an ice cream flavour, my favourite. They had the best home. They were watching T.V, they switched it on to T.V 1 . Then it showed me running away, so I went outside and bit the power cord. Luckily the T.V flashed off. Suddenly I went to bed. In the night I heard creaking noises in the small kitchen. I leaped out of bed and there was Jack with his training agents, Bryan and Sheldon. I was frightened, so I jumped out of the tall bathroom window. I ran, jumping over fences to the top of the street. As I ran, I saw the black glowing thing again, so I leaped as high as a door. I ended up back in my home back in London, England. Meanwhile... "Where is he?" shouted Jack. He was as mad as a stampede of angry elephants. The black thing closed and I was safe.

Inspirational story - The Sky's the Limit

Today we read a book about a man who lost his legs when he was 9 years old. He decided that it is not what happens to you that counts, but what you do about it. Tony Christiansen lost his legs when crossing a railway track and some carriages suddenly rolled backwards and over his legs. He decided that he wasn't going to let that stop him, so he learnt to walk again and to swim. He became a surf life-saver and took part in 33 rescues at the surf club. Despite several set-backs where people didn't want to believe that he could do things, he started his own signwriting business and haad 7 people working for him. His dad bought him a go-kart and soon he became an excellent race car driver. He also decided that he wanted to go to the Olympics and started training, doing shot-put, discus and the).e javelin, as well as some track events. He has been to 6 World Games and has won 35 medals (12 gold, 17 silver and 6 bronze) Other things he did, were tae kwon do and qualified up to his 2nd degree black belt. After that he learnt to fly and aeroplane. Tony Christiansen got married and has three children. He now travels the world talks to people about the importance of following their dreams. He believes that if people set goals that were not totally impossible (for him that would be becoming a rugby player), they can achieve them if they have the right attitude and perseverance. We really enjoyed reading about Tony. We agree: Never say "I can't do that!" - say "I can't do that YET!"
